A cairn ( pronounced as /kern/ ) is a mound of rough stones built as a memorial or landmark, typically on a hilltop or skyline. The Nanaimo Gyro Cairn sits atop Georgia Park (by the big canoe) overlooking Georgia Park, Maffeo Sutton Park, and Nanaimo’s inner harbour. The cairn is stands as a reminder of the contributions the Nanaimo Gyro Club has made to the City of Nanaimo. It lists our Past Presidents since the club was founded in 1922; But most importantly it lists the names of the Nanaimo Gyro’s who have passed on before us.
The cairn was built by Gyro’s in 2007 under the guidance of Past President James Thompson.
